Community Grants making a local impact

Fifteen organizations across Canada received a Community Grant in Q3 to help strengthen the wellbeing of people, pets, and communities.
Every community is strengthened by organizations that lead with compassion, care, and connection. From animal shelters to a food bank, a women’s shelter, a seniors’ home, a precariously housed support centre, and an agricultural mental health network, these organizations provide essential services that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day.
Our teams shared why these causes resonated with them, while organizations highlighted how the contribution will support their mission.
“It is our busy season at Hobbitstee. Over the course of the summer, we will receive thousands of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. All these animals have to eat. We will use the Community Grant from the team at West Brant Animal Hospital to help pay ongoing cost related to feeding the animals we have in care.”

“We chose Katie’s Place as the recipient of our $1,500 grant because their mission aligns perfectly with our values: every animal deserves compassion, dignity, and a chance at a better life. As a volunteer-run shelter, Katie’s Place cares for up to 125 cats at a time, providing a safe haven for those awaiting loving homes and those who are elderly, sick, FIV/FeLV positive, or otherwise overlooked. We were particularly moved by their unwavering belief in the value of all life and their commitment to judging no animal based on age, health, appearance, or circumstances. We are honoured to support an organization that continues to offer vulnerable animals the love, care, and second chances they deserve. Octavia, the girl pictured receiving the grant, is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. She spends many weekends raising money for the cats through her lemonade stand.”

During their Customer Appreciation Day on August 15, the team at South Burnaby Veterinary Hospital also raised over $340 for Katie’s Place through lemonade and treat sales.
“Serving Brantford and the County of Brant for over 40 years, Nova Vita provides trauma-informed emergency shelter, outreach support, and counselling services to individuals and families experiencing abuse, as well as counselling for individuals who have caused harm in their relationships. Donations to Nova Vita make a difference in the lives of families impacted by violence, abuse, and homelessness, and allow us to continue providing essential programs and services in the community. Last year alone, we answered 5,748 calls, text and online chats on our 24-hour Crisis & Support Line, 137 women and children found safe emergency shelter at Nova Vita, and 255 women leaving an abusive relationship received individual and group counselling. Donations like yours make this possible – thank you!”

“This year, we chose to support Au cœur des familles agricoles after one of the organization’s outreach workers visited us and spoke about the work they do. We recognize how important their role is, especially since farmers are often reluctant to seek the help they need. Their work ensures that support reaches those who might not otherwise ask for it.”

The Community Grants program is an easy and meaningful way for our practices to contribute to their communities and build team spirit.
